May is warm. May is nice. Kickball is in full swing, if you’re dumb enough to not know. Folks are creak’in. [In Martha Stewart voice:] It’s a good thing.

Baby Gecko and Red Dress Press shows all. (Except the first one.) Yikes.
Body Parts played a few shows and now are on big hiatus.
The Skags are graduating high school. Give em a high five.
Creosote rule.
Sisterpants played a few sweet weed drenched shows and have disappeared into the shadows once again. For the time being, anyway…
I’m still waiting for a Joe Myers show. Craig Brown to open.
I was going to do a big bit on Nicki Esquedero leaving town, but you know what, it’s not worth it.
I was also going to do a big bit about how sucky the new restaurant Karma is. It’s downtown, and it’s like a little piece of Scottsdale right in the heart of Flagstaff. It should be next to WalMart where it belongs.
Here’s something pretty random: I picked up Songs for Cassavetes at Bookman’s rather recently. It’s about 6 years old at this point. I picked up the soundtrack also randomly about a year ago, and it’s okay at best, but I’ve wanted to see the film since I had heard about it, when it was coming out. It’s essentially a film about a couple handfuls of bands and why they do what they do. The overall theme being the importance of all ages shows and how much more vital underground music is, (and I suppose you can define that for yourself) than music as commerce. The title comes from a few quotes by the original Cassavetes, (not his son, Nick) and how Americans have achieved material wealth but living human lives has eluded them and this culture dies (emotionally) at age 21. Well said on all accounts. Well, anyway, I liked the movie, it got me off my ass to write this silly column.
There’s a lot more to make asinine comments about, (like the new management of 111) but… whatever. Maybe you could do it.
