R.I.O.T Fest @ The Orpheum

R(esisting) I(ntsitutional) O(ppression) T(ogether) fest is a peacful gathering of activists from all over the southwest that is being organized by the Associated Students for Women’s Issues (ASWI) of Northern Arizona University.

The festival is on April 7, 2007 at the orpheum theater and will consist of music, art, workshops and other activities.
12:00-1:30pm Carol J. Adams
Carol J. Adams is the author of the pioneering The Sexual Politics of Meat: A Feminist-Vegetarian Critical Theory and the recently released: The Pornography of Meat. Her talk will be accompanied by a vegan lunch.
1:30-2:30pm Workshops
-Women in Math and Science: racism and sexism within the teaching of the sciences (focusing on mathematics)
-Militancy in Activism more than an acronym: stonewall was a RIOTfest
2:30-3:30pm Workshops
-Gender Outlaws and “Illegal” Immigrants; A Common Struggle
-Super Queer Workshop (Crafts!)
3:30-4:30pm Workshops
-Lady-friendly Bike Repair
-Safe BDSM: the basics of boundaries, negotiation, kink and safer sex
4:30-5:30pm Workshops
-Chicana Activism A look at the way Chicanas have revolutionized el movimiento for mujeres everywhere.
-Parent/Child Actvism: A mother and her son discuss activism

5:30-6:15pm SpitFury, Mrz. Apoca Lipstick SpitFury is a feminist dance troupe presenting curious concoctions for you to wrap your brain around. They create dance that is not only delicate, catchy, and cute, but also hairy, heady, and cathartic. Hell hath no femme fury, when SpitFury comes to town! Mrz Apoca Lipstick will be performing burlesque that youll love to love.

6:15-8:00pm P.E.A.C.E. Project
Traveling theatre troupe of over 25 young people from local Flagstaff High schools working together to produce original theatrical performances that include dramatic vignettes, poetry, dance, art and music.

8:00-9:15pm Emi Koyama
Emi Koyama is a multi-issue social justice slut synthesizing feminist, Asian, survivor, dyke, queer, sex worker, intersex, genderqueer, and crip politics, as these factors, while not a complete descriptor of who she is, all impacted her life. Emi is currently the director of Intersex Initiative.
